Three little words

“You have cancer.” Three little words that will change our lives forever. It is with a very heavy heart that we share that Charlie has been recently diagnosed with brain cancer.

Last Wednesday Charlie returned from his daily +10 mile walk speaking nonsense. Luckily, Suzette and Dagmar were on hand to determine something was very wrong and quickly whisked him to the hospital where they admitted him and started doing some tests to determine what was wrong.

After a CT scan and multiple MRIs the neurosurgeon determined there is a fast growing tumor on the left side of Charlie’s brain near his speech and reasoning centers. The resulting aphasia makes it difficult for him to “remember” words or to express his thoughts in speech or writing.

Unfortunately, the outcome for many people of Charlie’s age who are diagnosed with glioblastoma is very poor – typical survival rates are generally a few weeks to a few months.

This is terrifying. It’s bewildering. It’s overwhelming. And it sucks.

Charlie is scheduled for a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis in Monday and we’ll post additional information once we know anything more.
